- Worst Cake Deocrating Class in Houston
- I've always wanted to learn how to decorate cakes and signed up for a professional cake decorating class here thinking it'd be really fun. Boy was I in for a surprise!
The instructor (Sheila Brooks) is such a bad teacher. She would demonstrate things but mess up and just blame it on the fact that she hadn't piped in months or that her back hurt. If this happened once or twice, that would be understandable, but she screwed up every single time she did a demonstration. Stop making excuses please!
She is also rude and didn't engage her students. Learning from her was like watching TV because she didn't go around and help you out. I actually learned more from one of my classmates who was kind enough to give me pointers! And I'm paying $200 for Sheila to teach me!!
Not only that, the class itself was really unorganized. Sheila would have to LOOK at her notes to figure out what we were doing for the day when that should be stuff she already knows.
The class description is very misleading because 1) if you own a bakery already, taking this class will not help you make more money or learn more skills. You probably know everything she does anyway. And business secrets? Ha, what a joke. We learned nothing about how to deal with nagging customers, what's the best way to control inventory, etc. 2) If you are a beginner like me, you are way better off buying supplies and books and practicing on your own or with your girlfriends. If I could go back in time, I'd spend my $200 on supplies and books and then watch YouTube videos all night long.
You will definitely not be a professional cake decorator by the time you finish these classes. You will have an idea of cake decorating (but you can get an idea of it for FREE by reading books, watching TV...that's how value-LESS this class is), but you're still going to have to practice and be creative. GOOD LUCK! (Nickelimed, 01/28/2009)

- Expensive, inefficient, unorganized. You definitely don't get your money's worth for the classes they offer here. They are nowhere NEAR professional. Take it from someone who just wasted a bunch of time and money (and I actually took A WEEK off of work to take these classes, thinking they would be really great)....you will be disappointed by the quality of the material and instruction.
